How much does it cost to move a pallet in the UK?
A single standard pallet moved on a shared network typically costs £45 to £90 depending on distance and postcode. A dedicated vehicle for a few pallets is priced per mile, usually £1.20 to £1.65 a mile on a 7.5 tonne.
| Vehicle | Guide per mile |
|---|---|
| LWB van | £0.85 to £1.20 |
| Luton | £1.00 to £1.40 |
| 7.5 tonne | £1.20 to £1.65 |
| 18 tonne | £1.50 to £2.00 |
| Artic | £1.75 to £2.40 |
There are two different jobs hiding behind the same question. A single pallet going into a pallet network is priced by zone and moves overnight through a hub. A part or full load on a dedicated vehicle is priced by the mile, and goes direct.
Direct is dearer per pallet on small quantities and cheaper once you are past about six pallets, because you are paying for the vehicle rather than the pallet.
Prices move with fuel, day of the week and whether the lane has return work. A run into an area with plenty of freight coming back is cheaper than one into a dead end.
