How quickly do load boards pay?

Most freight work is still paid on 30, 60 or 90 day terms after invoicing. HaulageBoard holds the money at booking and releases it once the POD is uploaded, so movers are typically paid within a couple of days of delivery.

Typical time from delivery to money in the bank
RouteTypical wait
Direct customer, 60 day termsAbout 60 to 75 days
Subcontract through a brokerAbout 30 to 60 days
Invoice factoring1 to 3 days, minus 1 to 3 per cent
HaulageBoard, POD released1 to 2 days, minus £2.98

Payment terms are the quiet killer for small operators. The work is there, the margin is there, and the cash arrives two months later. Fuel and wages do not wait two months.

The way round it here is that the poster pays at the point of booking. We hold the money. The mover delivers, photographs the signed POD, and the poster either confirms or it releases automatically 24 hours later. The payout then goes out through Stripe.

That means a load delivered on Monday is usually paid by Wednesday or Thursday, rather than in October.
